What is Spanish Town?

Spanish Town is part of the South Park neighborhood of Park Ridge that is (roughly) bounded by Talcott Road on the north, Vine Av. on the east, Granville Av. on the south, and Prospect Av. on the west.

 

This area is known as Spanish Town because of the remarkable concentration of Spanish Colonial Revival homes that can be found there.

Some have come to refer to this area as "California in Park Ridge." And for good reason: you'd be hard-pressed to find a comparable collection of stunning  Mediterranean-style homes elsewhere in the Midwest.

While all of these century-old properties are worthy of celebration and reverence, we're aiming to protect five of these homes  under Park Ridge's historic preservation code.

Why do these five homes warrant historic designation? To answer that question, we have to take a look at Spanish Town's history...
